Subject Overview

Ngarrindjeri Language introduces students to the rich linguistic and cultural heritage of the Ngarrindjeri people, the Traditional Owners of the Lower Murray, Coorong, and Lakes Region. The course develops language skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing while also deepening students’ understanding of the Ngarrindjeri worldview, history, and cultural practices. Through engaging, culturally relevant activities and stories, students build their capabilities to communicate in Ngarrindjeri and reflect on the role of language in shaping identity and community. The course provides a strong foundation for further study in Aboriginal Languages and Cultures, promoting respect and cultural competency in our diverse society.
