Stage 2 Outdoor Education
Year 12 Outdoor Education
Subject Overview
The study of Outdoor Education provides students with opportunities to experience personal growth and to develop social skills, self-confidence, initiative, self-reliance, leadership, and collaborative skills.
The development of their relationship with natural environments impacts positively on students’ health and wellbeing and fosters a lifelong connection with nature and a commitment to responsible activity in natural environments.
Topics may include:
- Conservation and sustainability
- Human connections with nature
- Personal and social growth and development
- Outdoor activities such as multi-day bushwalking and camping
- Surfing or watercraft activities
Assessment:
Students provide evidence of their learning through four or five assessments, including the external assessment component. Students complete:
- One or two about natural environments tasks
- Two experiences in natural environments tasks
- One connections with natural environments task.
Cost:
There is a subject fee of $400.00 to cover costs associated with water activities, multi-day hikes and camping. Families will still be required to purchase appropriate food for overnight camps.
Additional information:
Students studying Outdoor Education are expected to maintain their studies for other subjects so should plan accordingly when their multi-day camps are scheduled. Students undertaking Stage 2 subjects such as Physics, Biology, Math Methods or Vocational Education may find that Outdoor Education interrupts their studies for these subjects and may need to allocate additional homework time to catch up on missed lessons.
