Year 12 Agriculture
Subject Overview
This subject looks at how agricultural practices have changed over time in the primary industries. You will analyse the benefits, risks, and opportunities of using different methods of agricultural production. You will also learn about sustainable management and how agriculture affects people, communities, and the environment. This could lead to a career path in farm management or promote an interest in veterinary science.
Topics may include:
- Animal systems
- Plant systems
- Soil and water systems.
Assessment:
The following assessment types enable students to demonstrate their learning in Stage 2 Agriculture:
School assessment (70%)
- Assessment Type 1: Agricultural Reports (30%)
- Assessment Type 2: Applications (40%)
External assessment (30%)
- Assessment Type 3: Experimental Investigation (30%).
Students provide evidence of their learning through seven assessments, including the external assessment component. Students complete:
- three agricultural reports:
- two with a practical focus, including one with individual student design
- one with a focus on science as a human endeavour
- three application tasks
- one experimental investigation
At least one agricultural report or applications task could involve collaborative work.
Cost:
There is an additional course fee of $60.00 for Agriculture which covers the cost of excursions and off-site course work.
Additional Information:
Students can select Agriculture if they achieved a C grade in Agriculture A or B in Year 11 – Stage 1.
