Year 10 Mathematics

Mathematics

At Year 10, all students will study Mathematics as part of the Australian Curriculum.

In Semester 2, Mathematics starts to branch out to more disciplined areas of Mathematics in regards to mathematical concepts and problem solving.

Students will be guided by their Connect Teacher and Mathematics Teacher to make a decision as to what area of Mathematics they should be studying at Year 10 Semester 2.

Year 10 Mathematics

Course Description

The proficiency strands understanding, fluency, problem-solving and reasoning are an integral part of mathematics content across the three content strands: number and algebra, measurement and geometry, and statistics and probability. The proficiencies reinforce the significance of working mathematically within the content and describe how the content is explored or developed. They provide the language to build in the developmental aspects of the learning of mathematics. 

This subject is for those students who would like to continue their maths through until the end of Year 12 and for those students who are thinking about a pathway to higher education in fields such as education, sport, marketing and health care.

Assessment

At Year 10 students will undertake a variety of assessments including investigations, tests, exams and short answer response questions.  

Year 10 Advanced Mathematics

Course Description

Year 10 Advanced Maths provides the foundation for further study in Advanced Mathematics or Mathematics at Year 11 and Year 12.

This subject is for those students who would like to continue higher levels of Mathematics at Year 11 and 12 and for those students who are thinking about a pathway to higher education in fields such as engineering, finance, medicine and health sciences.

Year 10 Essential Maths

Course Description

Essential Mathematics is designed for a range of students, including those who are seeking to meet the SACE numeracy requirements. There is an emphasis on extending students’ mathematical skills in ways that apply to practical problem-solving in everyday and workplace contexts, in flexible and resourceful ways.
 

This subject is for those students who would like to continue their maths learning until the end of Year 11 and students who are planning to pursue a career in a range of trades or vocational pathways.

  • Geometry and Construction
  • Earning and Spending
  • Measurement
