Course Description

Students consider the changes in agricultural practices over time. They analyse different methods of agricultural production in relation to benefits, risks, and opportunities. They deepen their understanding of sustainable management of the physical and biological environments and of how agriculture impacts on their lives, their communities, and the environment. Students will be involved in hands-on practicals and may also be involved with agricultural animals, learning appropriate handling, and considering health and welfare.  Students will learn and develop skills in real life problem solving, communication skills, sustainability and collaboration.

Topics may include:  

  • Breeding Poultry
  • Top Crops
  • Green Revolution
  • Sexual and A-sexual reproduction

Assessment:  

Year 10 Agriculture assessment is based on the performance standards that are associated with the Australian Curriculum in Science. The following assessments will be undertaken:

  • Practical applications – animal care and wellbeing
  • Investigation tasks including written assignments
  • Class participation – maintaining biosecurity and work health safety standards

Additional Information

There is a subject fee of $50.00 to cover some consumables required during practical classes.
