Integrated Learning

Integrated Learning is a SACE subject that can cover a variety of topics. Goolwa Secondary College will offer 3 strands of Integrated Learning where students can select a maximum of 1-strand.

The following strands of Integrated Learning will be offered:

  • Surfing
  • eSports Academy
  • Duke of Edinburgh

Integrated learning subjects can only be offered to those students who complete their compulsory Year 10 and Stage 1 subjects. These subjects are intended to run in Semester 2, after compulsories have been completed. If students have not completed their compulsory subjects, a Work Support Session will be offered during the time that Integrated Learning will be running.

Surfing

Subject Overview

Surfing for Year 10 and 11 students offers an exhilarating opportunity to earn SACE points while engaging in a dynamic and physically challenging sport. This subject overview focuses on developing students’ surfing skills, ocean awareness, and understanding of coastal environments.

Through practical sessions and theoretical study, participants will explore techniques such as paddling, wave selection, and manoeuvring, all while emphasising safety and environmental sustainability. 

This course not only promotes physical fitness and outdoor activity but also encourages a deep appreciation for marine ecosystems and responsible surfing practices.

The curriculum integrates topics like wave formation, tide cycles, and weather patterns relevant to surfing conditions, fostering a comprehensive understanding of the ocean’s dynamic forces.

Assessment

Assessment includes practical demonstrations, written assignments on surfing theory, and reflections on personal growth and skill development.

Additional Information

There will be a cost of $100.00 for transport to surfing activities as well as instructor hire. We are also considering a surfing camp which would be an additional cost of $120.00

 

eSports Academy

Subject Overview

Students will refine their skills and understanding of the eSport and gaming industry as they train, compete, and learn within this subject.

The students will look to coach others in skill development, research an emerging issue within the industry, and create a portfolio of evidence of their growth in the area.
